Hollywood Smack Down

Last week was LA Art Week. I had some great assignments documenting various art fairs happening around LA. I went to FRIEZE and SHOW LA. FRIEZE is always a great time, but the only reason I made it out there was to see work from Larry Sultan. A gallery from New York was showing some of his images from “The Valley”. I hadn’t seen that work on a wall since his retrospective at LACMA back in 2014, so it was a solid treat. SHOW LA was amazing. It was a photo festival happening at the REEF in DTLA. I popped in their opening night and engulfed myself in some amazing photographs and conversations. I reconnected with a friend from CFPA who was the first person to review my work back in 2009. I love the culture around fine art, but it can get a bit overwhelming. That brings me to my last gig of the weekend. SuperChief x Titmouse Anti-FRIEZE.

I try and make it out to all the openings at SuperChief. I love the culture and have a ton of respect for the work their team puts to shining light onto artists in the LA art scene. They invited me to be apart of the team and document their event at Titmouse in Hollywood. The event was an art festival that concluded with some backyard wrestling by the group Circle 6. I’ve never shot wrestling like this and it was a real treat. These were some of my favorite images from the event. I usually don’t use on camera flash in this way, so it was fun to get out of my comfort zone. Hope you enjoy them, and please check them out. They put on one hell of a show. You can check out the documentary from the event here. For all the shooters out there who read this, keep making work and push yourself. Photography isn’t going anywhere. Ciao.
