Mi Familia
The first time I discovered Richard Avedon was in a Barnes and Noble in Tucson, Arizona. I was about thirteen years old and the project was “The American West”. I didn’t know anything about him, but I loved the photographs. While in college I learned more about his photographs and process. Since then I have always loved making portraits on white. I think images like this are important, because it leaves nothing to distraction. Last week my friend Paul Yem was letting me borrow his ProFoto lighting kit, and I was trying to take full advantage of them. This is where these images came from.
My girlfriends family was throwing a bbq so we could all hang out and meet the newborn. I took this as an opportunity to bring out the backdrop and make a few portraits. I have some other white backdrop projects I’m going to pull up, but I really enjoyed making these.
