Have Light Will Travel

A few weeks ago I got a cold email about photographing an event organized by the non profit 15 Percent Pledge. The event was hosted at Paramount Studios so it was a no brainer. My first time on the Paramount lot was back in 2011 when they used to host the Paris Photo event. This studio lot is probably my favorite in Los Angeles. It’s right in the middle of the city and it’s very misleading on how big it actually is. That being said this job was a no brainer.

The event consisted of two days that celebrated black owned businesses in Los Angeles. The first day they wanted a live portrait gallery so I was able to bring on an assistant to help with lighting and updating the gallery the guests could access. I rarely get to use an assistant, so this was a real treat. I ended up borrowing a lighting kit from my friend Paul Yem (s/o Paul). I don’t use ProFoto lights as much as I would like to, so I wanted to take advantage of the gear as much as I could. Throughout Saturday Mario Gorman and I bopped around New York City and made portraits with one light and a softbox. If it was up to me I would’ve just shot all day like this, but we had a shot list and galleries to create. If I met you at the event it was a pleasure, if not I hope you enjoy this portraits. Carpe Diem ya’ll.

These last two portraits were made the second day without any lighting, but I still loved the way they came out.
